Over the Weekend: July 22-24, 2011

Sorry this is a day late, but we're on VACATION!!! In case you missed it, check out yesterday's guest post by Indiana from Adored Austin.

Friday

The start of another week of vacation! This one will be a lot more relaxing than driving 1/2 way across the country.

We set our compass North for Waseca, Minn., to attend the annual Relay for Life, a Christianson family tradition. Digging up old memories, great fellowship with family and awesome food was all around!

Just look at those tater twisters!

Barb is the reason we attend the Relay every year. We miss her dearly. Barb's daughter, Molly, did the drawings on the bags, and once it's dark, candles are lit inside all along the walking path.

Saturday

The kids were all home at nana and papa's (this is what the grandchildren call Kelsey's parents), so the adults got up early and went for a beautiful morning run/walk.

Then Kelsey and I parted ways for a little over 24 hours. I headed for the Twin Cities to attend a bachelor party for my good friend Peter. Kelsey and the rest of her family headed to Okoboji, where we would spend the next week!

In the cities, we parked at our hotel and started walking toward the new Target Field, where the Minnesota Twins play a game called baseball. First, we had to get something to eat, of course.

After an early afternoon lunch, we walked to the game. The Twins won and we had a fabulous time at the ballpark. The stadium was opened last year, so it was really cool to see new establishment.

After the game we headed back to the hotel to get cleaned up and then headed out for a night on the town. Downtown Minneapolis is a pretty happening place and there was a lot to see and do.

Sunday

We rose from our slumber in the a.m. and headed south. I headed toward Okoboji and the rest of the guys returned to Des Moines. It was a super fun 24 hours and I wish Pete all the best in his upcoming marriage on Labor Day weekend.

Once I was in 'Boji, it was time for the first Walmart run. This has become quite the comical tradition when we are at the lake. How many times will we go to Walmart? As of Tuesday morning, I am sitting in a coffee shop writing this blog and will be heading to Walmart right after for trip No. 2. It's usually a daily trip if not more.

Anyway, after the first Walmart run, everybody took an early afternoon siesta and then we got the boat out for a gorgeous afternoon on the water.

It's so fun now that the twins can swim. And even four-month old baby Mylie made her first trip on Papa's boat.

We don't water ski or tube usually--we just relax. Sometimes we drive the boat across the lake to get nutty bars or to eat lunch or supper, but mostly we relax. Except the twins. They jump off the boat, swim to the ladder, rinse and repeat; over and over again.

We are blessed to be at the lake and it always reminds us of our first summer there when we fell in love. Oh, the memories!

I hope everyone is having a great start to their week.
