Eric's Experience With Chiropractic

photo 32 Nearly 30 years ago, my mother was left wondering what to do. Her second child (me) had been born and wouldn't stop crying and wouldn't sleep for more than two hours at a time. At her wits' end and looking for advice from anyone willing to help, someone suggested she "take him to the chiropractor."

So she did. She took me to the chiropractor and it did the trick. I stopped being fussy and started sleeping through the night. She believed in it so much that she started going herself, and eventually our entire family visited the chiropractor on a monthly basis.

"I have been blessed with a long and healthy career as a professional athlete, and as I move forward into the next stage of my life, chiropractic care will continue to be an important part of my game plan." - Jerry Rice (my football hero)

Since I've gone to a chiropractor nearly all my life, it's pretty normal for me, but as I've talked to others about it, occasionally I'll get a cross look of wonderment. It seems that chiropractors seem kind of kooky to some people.

In my experience, I can see why. The chiropractors I visited through my childhood practiced in a way that is different from the chiropractor we see today. The chiropractors from my childhood were businesses making transactions. You go in, crack crack goes your back, crack crack goes your neck, pay at the front desk, and we'll see you in a month!

While I still think it was valuable through childhood, I've come to find out there are many types of chiropractic out there, and after I met Dr. Tyler Molstre, I realized there was a better way. For Dr. Tyler, the process is so much more than just aligning your spine (which is certainly important). It's about overall wellness and a healthy lifestyle.

I've learned so much in the year-plus that we've been seeing Dr. Tyler. There are things in my lifestyle that I've never thought twice about that he challenges me on, and provides general education that helps drive out ignorance as an excuse. His care goes far beyond simply chiropractic and into every aspect of health and lifestyle. Things like...

  • Everyday posture
  • Importance of nutrition
  • Stress management
  • What it means to be "healthy" (not what you might think)
  • Changing eating habits
  • Our bodies' abilities to naturally heal itself

He has always provided a natural approach to issues we've faced. Practical (sometimes out there) steps we can take before going to a medical doctor. Medical doctors have their place, but Dr. Tyler has helped us understand that they are there for extreme cases and that God has made our bodies in such a way that they can heal themselves in most cases with proper natural care and understanding.

Dr. Tyler is who we call first when we have a health issue. He's always super helpful and available. And if you've had back or neck problems in the past or currently, and you are in the Des Moines area, you should totally check him out.

Have you had any experience with a chiropractor? Anyone giving you wellness advice?
